Bad news for
Jay Z's new music streaming service, Tidal, this week: it's been announced that
CEO Andy Chen is leaving the company, just two weeks after its
launch.
In
the interim, Chen's role will be taken over by the company's former CEO,
Peter Tonstad. According to a statement from Tidal, Tonstad "has a better
understanding better understanding of the industry and a clear vision for how
the company is looking to change the status quo. " He's also
"streamlining resources", which is a fancy way to explain the
departure of 25 other employees this week.
"We've
eliminated a handful of positions and refocused our company-wide talent to
address departments that need support and cut redundancies,"
said Tidal in a statement. "TIDAL's offices globally
will remain and grow: we are already hiring for several new positions now.
We're excited about our future and what's in-store for fans who want the best
listening experience."
Meanwhile, Business Insider reports that Jay Z
has added a new very cool feature of the Tidal
service: personal phone calls from Jay Z. Apparently, Jay Z, Jack White,
and other celeb musicians have been calling up customers to personally thank
them for subscribing. Which, alongside all that exclusive Beyoncé content, is
definitely making us consider signing up. Because, seriously, we NEED to hear
Kanye attempting to do a customer services call.
