Actor Abe Vigoda, who
kickstarted his career in cinema with a role on the all time crime drama
classic ‘The Godfather’, has died.
Vigoda, 94, peaceably passed away on Tuesday January 26, at his
home in New Jersey.
“He died in his sleep, of natural causes. He was not sick,” his
daughter, Carol Vigoda Fuchs, told Reuters.
Vigoda
spent most of his early career in theater and television, getting his big break
in movies with his role in ‘The Godfather’, the first installment of the classic
trilogy, in 1972. He played the role of Salvatore Tessio, a mobster who was
doomed to a swift fate after betraying the Corleone family.
He
also played Detective Sargent Phil Fish in the hugely popular police comedy
series “Barney Miller”; picking up three Emmy nominations for best supporting
actor.
May his soul rest in peace
