The tragic story of 21-year-old Eloise Aimee Parry, who
died after an accidental overconsumption of dangerous diet pills she'd
bought online, has emerged this week. And we're hoping it'll serve as a
reminder to many exactly how risky it is
to buy unknown products online - whatever the intention.
Eloise, from Shrewsbury, passed away on April 12th after
admitting herself to A&E. She had bought diet pills online, which are
thought to have contained dinitrophenol (DNP), an industrial strength chemical
known for its highly toxic levels.
Eloise, who was studying at Glyndwr University, went
to hospital after complaining of ill-health, but her mother, Fiona Parry,
recalled that there had been "no real panic" until doctors
carried out a toxicology report which revealed the "dire" extent of
her situation.
Eloise had taken eight of the unknown tablets,
but based on the extraordinarily high levels of DNP found in them, just two would have been enough to cause
a fatality.
