Recent News says no fewer than 1,500 members of the All Progressive Congress (APC) in Odigbo local government area of Ondo state, defected to the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) on Friday, February 27, in Ore, the headquarters of the council area.
The leaders of the ex-APC members, Bolanle Taofik, Abiye Adefisayo and Akeem Alli Akinsulere, and their followers were received into the PDP by the state chairman of the party, Clement Faboyede, at the party’s campaign rally held in Ore.
Speaking at the rally, the state governor and southwest coordinator of the Jonathan/Sambo campaign organisation, Dr Olusegun Mimiko, stressed the need for the people to vote en masse for President Goodluck Jonathan and other PDP candidates because of the commitment of the Jonathan administration to infrastructural development of the area.
He emphatically pinpointed the Ore/Benin highway that had been re-constructed by the administration and the on-going rehabilitation of Ore/ Sagamu road axis as a major achievement of the incumbent administration, saying that the development would boost commercial activities and ease transportation in the area.
Dr Mimiko, who described President Jonathan as a credible candidate with a sincere desire to transform the socio-economic landscape of the country through his transform agenda, noted that a vote for Jonathan signified a bright future for the country.
While commending the defectors for the wise decision taken in their best interests and that of the state, Dr Mimiko charged them to continue to spread the message of Jonathan and work diligently for his re-election.
Meanwhile, Governor Olusegun Mimiko, who doubles as the coordinator of the Goodluck Jonathan Campaign Southwest, has been accused of mismanaging the sum of N80million given to him by President Goodluck Jonathan for campaign purposes.
