Studio 53 extra co-host, Georgina Eku Edewor is facing massive backlash from Nigerians over a recent photo-shoot she appeared in.
Eku, who is a British-Nigerian, is a model, TV host and an actress. The light-skinned model who is a twin, appeared in a photo-shoot with rapper Lynxx recently for the cover of Thisday newspaper’s elite pull-out publication, Thisday Style.
In one of the pictures, Eku stood with 5 boys (who are probably random street kids), dressed like a princess in an all white ensemble, while 4 of the boys are carrying bags as if to suggest they are her luggage, while one of them holds an umbrella over her head. The boys were adorned with traditional wrappers in the picture.
A couple of Nigerians have lambasted the idea behind the photo-shoot saying it depicts slavery and a debasement of the Nigerian culture.
In a series of tweets, Eku explains the message the picture is sending…..
An image depicts younger members of society helping a young bride as she walks the short distance to her new home.

They carry small cases, some are relatives, wrapped in newly printed fabric to represent the brides family.

But some Nigerians will have none of that. Abimbola Oligbinde says, “This picture makes light a very sensitive issue. It depicts white people as superior to blacks”.
An obviously pissed Victoria asks, “How do you not see the blatant message in this offensive picture? ‘Just art’?!”
According to Oreoluwa Fakorede, “‘Benin princess and servants. That’s what I first saw in the Eku Edewor photo”.
But Eku has her supporters, Demola says, “I don’t see any thing wrong in that Eku Edewor picture, the current situation of things should not make us bitter”.
Another commenter thinks, “The people shouting are are probably not artistic or enthusiasts”.
What do you think of the picture?
