At least eight tourists have been killed after militants attacked the Tunisia parliament building in the capital Tunis.
A spokesman for the interior ministry said that other tourists have also been held hostage at a museum inside the parliament compound.
The AFP news agency reported that at least two men armed with Kalashnikov assault rifles were involved in the attack at the Bardo Museum.
The museum is a leading tourist attraction in the country, and houses on of the world's largest Roman mosaic collections.
